About Us

Hello, I’m Shanel, the owner of Fabric & Frolic! Thank you for visiting my shop. 

I have a BFA from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, where my focus was sculpture and wearable art. My early explorations of clothing-as-art led me to 15-years in business as a bespoke womenswear designer and dressmaker.  My designs are inspired by my sculpture background, as well as my love for classic vintage styling, daring silhouettes, and statement textiles.  

I believe that great materials are the foundation for a great piece of textile art. As a designer, I found that the longer I was in the field, the more difficult it became to find inspiring fabrics for my own designs. It was my own search for exciting, unique, and fun fabrics that eventually led me to open my own online fabric shop.

The name of my shop, Fabric & Frolic, was inspired by my own creative process, as well as by my daughter, Famke, who embodies the word "frolic"! She is inquisitive, energetic and always full of gaiety, just as one’s creative process should be.  I hope to bring that energy to you with my selection of frolicsome, inspired, and colorful fabrics.
